Sat Jinda Kalyana College, Kalanaur, lies in the western part of Rohtak district in Haryana on the Rohtak Bhiwani road at a distance of twenty two kilometers from Rohtak. The college is not situatuated in Kalanaur proper but lies on an intersection on the highway at a distance of three kilometers from Kalanaur town. This is the only institution of higher education between Rohtak and Bhiwani. The college offers undergraduate courses in Humanities, Commerce and U.G.C sponsored add on courses.
Though Kalanaur has been upgraded to a town with a functioning municipal committee, its economy is still essentially rural in character. The main occupation remains agriculture and serving in the Indian army. The college was a pathfinder for it opened a window to the outer world for the people and thus fulfilled a dire need of this backward area. Another revolutionary step was co-education which did not go down well with the prevalent rural culture or concept of morals. Mahant Jamna Dass Ji, the founder of this institution, was a pragmatic visionary, a visualiser of dreams. Education, and particularly education for women, was very close to his heart. He paid the fees for the girl students of this college for many years before Haryana Govt. gave them this facility. The college has proved a boon to the poor people who could not have even dreamt of higher education for their children. Today Kalanaur cannot be imagined with out S.J.K college for it has become a part of the history and culture of this area, of the lives of the people.
Considering the verdant surroundings of the college campus we fondly compare it to Tagore’s Shantiniketan. At S.J.K. College teaching is not just a job but a mission. The college motto is ‘vidya-vivek-vikas’. Vidya i.e. knowledge illuminates the path, showing the way to intellectual enlightenment (vivek), and thus development (vikas).

Kalanaur is famous for its religious gurus and muths, popularly known as “Tikanas’. In a long tradtion of philanthropic works, Sat Jinda Kalyana College was established in 1971 by the Tikana of the same name under the auspices of Mahant Shri Jamna Dass Ji. The dedicated efforts of his enlightened and socially aware followers helped to give this dream a practical shape and the S.J.K. Education Society was formed.
